LibreOffice prints in wrong orientation

I have an Epson SC P600 printer using the Gutenprint driver in CUPS. The printer works fine, for example when printing a pdf from Firefox. However, it behaves weird when printing from a LibreOffice document. I tried the flatpak and the version from fedoras repos and whatever i configure, the printer spits out the page in the wrong orientation. Is this a known bug in LibreOffice?

Have you looked at this:
Menu Format ==> Page style ==> Page
Here you can select Portrait or Landscape, size, margins, etc.

yeah of course, i’ve set all the relevant printing settings, preview looks alright, only the output from the printer is wrong

you can imagine it like that:

it looks like that although orientation is set to portrait, it’s quite strange

In File ==> Print you see in the General tab, at the bottom, Orientation. Is this set correctly?

When you have a printer with multiple trays you can have a look here:
In File ==> Printersettings you see a button Options which opens a new window with at the bottom a setting for the to be used paper tray.

paper tray is also set to default in printer properties.

do i have to check this too?

grafik

It’s always good to do that, but if this is set wrongly, you would have problems with others programs as well, I guess.

This is all I could find about orientation in Writer. Sorry.

that didn’t work either:( but thanks for your efforts

Workaround (because I dont know the answer)

Save as PDF and print from Firefox.

yeah i currently do that, but this is a kinda ugly workaround. i think i’m gonna report this as a bug then

I just searched on the internet and received this answer from an AI machine, but, and I also saw that yesterday, it has to do with Imperial paper formats. Do you use those Letter paper, or do you have A4, A3 paper?

LibreOffice Page Orientation

If a portrait document in LibreOffice Writer is printing in landscape, the issue might be due to a known bug introduced around September 22, 2022, which affects newer versions of LibreOffice (specifically from version 7.5.0 onwards) and can cause documents to be rotated incorrectly during printing, especially on certain printers. This problem has been reported to the LibreOffice bug tracker and is not present in older versions.

To resolve this, you can try the following solutions:

  1. Use a Workaround for the Known Bug: A reported workaround involves adjusting the paper width in the Page Style settings. Go to Format > Page > Page tab, and change the paper width from its current value (e.g., 8.50") to a slightly different value (e.g., 8.52"). This adjustment can sometimes force the correct orientation to be recognized by the printer driver.

i use A4 as the format in LO as well as A4 paper for the printer

i will try this, thanks!
