Why does Fedora 42's USB give a "Boot Option Restored"?

Sorry if I act like a newbie.

My Windows 8 HP Beats laptop’s battery died so I purchased a Think Pad. I actually liked the Windows 8 start screen and hate Windows 11. I actually used Windows 3.1 for years before XP on a Compaq, which I replaced with the HP Beats.

I remember hearing about gnome being a “tablet UI” so I decided to replace Windows 11 with Fedora 42 which I like much better. Not as good as Windows 8, but is fine.

I get a “Boot Option Restored” error when I boot the Fedora USB stick on my Think Pad. Why does this happen, and will it mess up my BIOS?

I’m a retired developer who programmed on Microsoft technologies from 1983 to 2017. I worked for Compaq, HP and HPE. I haven’t used Unix since BSD-4.

I do have a Windows 2019 server, I’m not comfortable using a Red Hat or Cent OS server so I’ll keep a Windows server.

Possibly this Merely booting Fedora 42 Live media adds a "Fedora" entry to the UEFI boot menu

Understood, stick with what you can support.

Personally I run Fedora server for my network file sharing, imap email, home automation, etc.

using samba I have windows smb shares that windows 11 and macos can use.
