Wacom Intuos tablet pressure in Krita crashed Fedora 39 LXQT and now the internet devices aren't recognized

I’m using Fedora for the first time, very new to Linux, and it is important to me to have Wacom work with Krita. I was excited to use LXQT in particular since Krita uses Qt and I want something lightweight and fast.
The pressure sensitivity worked, then after I completed the first stroke (and mind you, tested the finger touch sensitivity and side buttons which neither features I DON’T WANT from Wacom, I hate it!) the cursor froze and the whole system froze and I force shut it down with the power button after a few minutes. While I was dealing with the freeze, I saw that this discussion says that you need Wayland instead of x11 for Wacom drivers X11 crashes when using wacom tablet - #2 by figaro
I would like to try either “installing wayland” or installing a package called xorg-x11-drv-wacom that could work to prevent the crash, however my desktop is funky now. For one, the scaling has black bars around it instead of scaling to the full monitor, so I think the display is incorrect now. For another, the USBs won’t recognize. Except that’s not true, it recognizes my flash drive USB! But it does not recognize my crappy wifi adapter , and my Google Pixel phone that I was using for internet tethering when my wifi adapter wasn’t working well. Those were plugged in and working before the crash. It had recognized that I plugged in Google Pixel and was giving me internet connection before this crash. My pixel will charge still and I set it to USB tethering but Fedora doesn’t recognize it.

So my internet doesn’t work at all now. I tried to shut down, and I tried to reboot. I tried to plug the pixel into different ports, like 2 and 3, and the USB extension cord (such a cord is working for my flash drive and my wacom and my keyboard and mouse…), the pixel and wifi just won’t connect

Is there any way to run a fix on my OS to help it get back to before the crash? I want to keep troubleshooting wacom but the OS is broken now.

here is a visual aid: no wifi or ethernet is recognized, and there are black bars around the display

LXQt is not currently usable with Wayland, using the default installation on Fedora. X11-only.

Thank you! I know now to try something else for this problem.

Krita is working normal even with the same wacom tablet that crashed.
PXL_20240224_045117809_c

I wonder if I had rebooted after doing dnf install update (which supplied libwacom) this crash would not have happened. I experienced the same crash on Fedora 30 Design Suite Live (I was confused at the time which version even worked, because um, this error How to go on if 'Test media & start Fedora Workstation 38' option in grub menu returns 'It is not recommended to use this media.'? - #11 by coffee and the last post answered the question for installing f39 using Fedora Media Writer----so this bug was present in f30, too! That’s how I know.) If no one has any suggestions on how to fix this system hiccup in the next twelve-ish hours, I’m sure I can reinstall and try again. I was so clueless on how to even tether my phone today to get the updates, it will be fast to set up and troubleshoot the second time.

I know next to nothing about wacom tablets and/or their drivers, so you probably kno wmor ethan I do at this point

So the issue was that you didnt reboot after installing that driver? Strange, maybe it has some userspace component and a kernel component, and only one was working.

LXQt is working on a Qt6 port and also Wayland support. It will for sure be a good option but stay on XOrg for now.

Not sure how their Wacomm tablet support under Wayland will be, KDE Plasma has a systemsettings page for these tablets and they lack a ton of options, I imagine LXQt being worse

It might be a similar issue:
Fedora39 : No network and no external display after kernel-6.7.5-200 update

The issue of network loss may not be related to the Wacom tablet driver install, just coincidental. Drivers are kernel related, updated kernel causes some to have networking issues as per @vgaetera comment above.
New to Linux? I suggest you *don’t make multiple changes at once to try fixing your issue. Did Krita crash the system after you rebooted it? If not, then one problem is solved. If it did, then you will likely have more than one issue. If you think the driver install caused the network issue, then uninstall the driver to see if it fixes your problem. You could also downgrade the kernel if it is causing the networking errors, at least until a fix lands.

It’s true that I am configuring many things at the same time. Thank you very much for these inputs, too, about wayland and qt and everything

I now think it is my Nvidia card that caused the crash and not Wacom., the reason being How to fix fedora 37 freezing
and mind you i don’t want to install nvidia drivers… I have ethical/moral disagreement with proprietary GPU and it is very awesome that Fedora doesn’t try to supplement that by default. but a card is in my computer.

So! I checked with the command from the discussion journalctl -b -1 --priority=3 after my brief brushwork attempt caused the computer to completely freeze and compel me to hard shut it down…

this was after using Krita for about a minute, and I didn’t press tablet buttons that time. I put faith that installing updates from reinstalling the OS and using my wacom intuos tablet immediately, without any rebooting, would work. Just to see! But it didn’t :upside_down_face:

I am lucky that it didn’t kill my internet connection and display, like it did yesterday, the crash + hard shut down I started this thread for…

Just some minutes ago I had a similar problem when I opened the Falkon browser and tried to make a request into Duckduckgo. Complete freezing, and had to hard shut down. I input the journalctl command again when I booted back up, and got a much shorter error log, with a setfont issue, which it had in the earlier error log

(second hard shut down of today)

i won’t try installing nvidia drivers just yet, but I will try soon-ish after I wait for any ideas! (like… a way to disable the Nvidia card and try to rely on the processor instead…? I might have to buy a new processor… but is there a way? Just a note, this is a computer and not a laptop. It was a new computer in 2010 and it was used by my family for playing Skyrim and Starcraft etc when we were young~but I’m just interested in art and ethics as an adult~) Thank you.
