Severe stuttering on YouTube in Chromium Web Browser

Hello,

I have been a having sporadic yet persistent stutters while using YouTube. When the stutter appears, the whole system becomes practically unusable. The issue seems to happen randomly and I cannot point to a specific action that might have caused it. The issue can appear within the first 5 minutes if watching or it can appear after several hours of watching. The only way to solve it is a reboot of my machine.

This problem started even when I was using Ubuntu 24.04 with Gnome 46 and persisted even though I switched to Fedora 41 and now Fedora 42 Beta.

I have attached screenshots of my system as well as a video of the stutter.

I am using flathub Chromium version 134.0.6998.117

Are you using wifi? What is your network router, modem etc.?

Have you tried setting your power profiles to ‘performance’?

Maybe try vulkan, go to chrome://flags and search and enable vulkan.
You will need to disable vaapi if you enabled it for chrome.

As you use amd gpu you will need to install the driver

sudo dnf swap mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers-freeworld

I am using WiFi exclusively, yes. My router is an Asus RT-AX57 and is hooked up to a Nokia Fiber modem (don’t know what model).

The problem has happened on Performance Mode, Balanced and Power Saver as well.
