Video stuttering in Firefox

I’m experiencing a strange issue where YouTube videos in Firefox is stuttering after I changed my GPU from a 1070 Ti to an RX 5700 XT. It happens on all available codecs and all resolutions, on both Wayland and X11, and on the native package and the Flatpak. It also occasionally happens when playing videos on VLC. I’ve tried turning on and off GPU acceleration.

Strangely, it does not happen when using Chrome.

I have the xorg-x11-drv-amdgpu.x86_64 package installed. What else should I try?

Firefox is using VA-API for hardware-accelerated video decoding. Did you uninstall any nvidia proprietary drivers? Do you have mesa-va-drivers-freeworld from RPM Fusion installed? Please post the output of vainfo, too.

He switched from an nvidia GTX 1070 to an amd RX 5700 XT. Guess that would eliminate the nvidia drivers aspect.
