Slow Youtube video playback with Firefox-Wayland on Fedora 31

Hi,

I’m using Firefox on Wayland on my Fedora 31 laptop, and Youtube videos are lagging and don’t play smoothly. Before the upgrade I had no problems with the 1080p videos.

I have a Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 GPU on a Intel(R) Core™ i7-8650U CPU which in theory has hardware video decoding capabilities.

Firefox doesn’t support any kind of hardware acceleration for videos.

Oh, that’s unfortunate. Anyway, with this upgrade the video reproduction of Firefox is much worse.

Have you tried using the package for Firefox on Xorg?

Ok, I’m seeing that Firefox wayland is now the default in F31. After installing the firefox-x11 package, it makes a great difference playing Youtube videos. It’s much smoother in X11.
