KDEConnect can't open plugin settings

Hi all,

I just started using fedora workstation on one of my systems and I’m running into an issue with kdeconnect.

It mostly works just fine, but when I click on “Plugin Settings” in the GUI nothing happens.
It’s a fresh install and everything is up to date.

Does kdeconnect usually work well and is it just my system being weird? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Not sure what context to provide that could be helpful

$ uname -a
Linux fedora 6.17.4-200.fc42.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Oct 19 18:47:49 UTC 2025 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ kdeconnect-cli --version
kdeconnect-cli 25.08.2

The main thing I want to configure are remote commands, so if anyone knows how to add commands without the GUI, that would also be great.
(Asking here because kdeconnect works fine on my other devices.)

works fine for me:

Have you got a device paired already when you click on Plugins?

Yes, I have my phone and laptop paired. Both can remote control the system, but the plugin Settings won’t open for either of them.
Are you also on Workstation 42 with Gnome using Wayland?

Nope - F42 KDE here. Zero issues for me.

Just for reference, the problem has been reported as bug on windows and apparently fixed in nightly: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=504540
EDIT: This is an old report and the version with the fix is 25.07.70, which is older than the 25.08.2 that I’m having this issue with.

Thanks

I take that to mean it’s not an issue with Fedora, but either Gnome or KDEConnect. I will ask there.

I have made a post on the kdeconnect forums.

In the meantime, dnf downgrade kdeconnect resolved the issue for me.

I had also tried copying the contents of .config/kdeconnect/DEVICE-ID/kdeconnect_runcommand/config, from another machine that my phone was connected to, over to my fedora machine. At first it didn’t seem to work, but just now after I downgraded I did see some commands already in the GUI an accessible on the phone.
So maybe it is possible to connect the device one wants to run the commands from to a system where kdeconnect works, set up all the commands, and then copy it to the problem system.

Another update in case someone else has the same problem:
There is a gnome specific implementation of KDEconnect, called GSconnect.
It required the gnome extension manager and can be installed via that manager.
