Installing Fedora in a laptop with NVIDIA GeForce 920MX

Hi guys,

I’m newbie on this fedora/linux world. I have installed just installed a Fedora 41 but it freezes almost as soon as I log to the system in.

I have read some topics on the NVIDIA and Fedora but I haven’t found a clear way for dummies to be able to use Fedora 41 without suffering any closed-drivers related issue.

Does anybody here know where can I find a simple step-by-step guide to make Fedora work in my laptop?

Also, as far as I have read, sometimes it falls back to freeze after a few upgrades. So it also would be fantastic if you can throw some light over things to check to do not get frozen again after updating the system.

The graphic card is an NVIDIA GeForce 920MX and the laptop is an ASUS trying to maintain the ability to boot on Windows if possible.

In the way I’m not a gamer, I don’t care if the NVIDIA card is deactivated working with the processor integrated one.

Thank you very much!

Have a great day!

Cheers,

Hi and welcome to :fedora: !

RPM Fusion’s HowTo should be the guide you’re looking for. Revert here if you encounter issues.

Hi Mike B.,

Thanks a lot for your answer!

I’m going to dive into the doc you shared with me and if I find any issue I’ll be back to this thread for sure. Otherwise, if I solve the issue following your answer I’ll rate it as solution.

Have a great day!

Hi Mike B.,

First of all, thank you for your time and your answer.

Everything looks like working fine now. However, I have made a fresh install with 42 version.

But I think the main problem was I was installing third party NVIDIA drivers while Fedora was working the drivers inside de distro out. So after a couple of updates, all my work done was tossed by internal drivers.

Have a great day!
