Installing Fedora 42 (Workstation or SilverBlue) on LG Gram (2025) failing

Hey, I’m trying to install Fedora 42 on my laptop. It’s a 16" OLED Intel Arc based LG Gram 2025 with touchscreen.

I changed my boot menu, I choose install Fedora…and it just stays on a back screen. After about 10 seconds, the USB stops being accessed. And nothing happens. I waited about 10 minutes just to make sure…nothing is happening.

I tried with with SecureBoot off…same thing

I tried troubleshooting → install with basic graphic interface…same thing.

I initially tried Workstation, but tried again with SilverBlue…same thing.

I installed it on a VirtualMachine just to make sure nothing was wrong on my side of being dumb…and pressing the wrong buttons and it worked fine.

I also installed it on an old Surfacebook 1st gen and it worked fine (except the touchscreen doesn’t work).

I’m not sure what to do at this point…

Update:

  • I couldn’t actually get Fedora running even after more attempts (though I only tried Workstation and Silver Blue iterations, maybe KDE would have worked?)

  • I couldn’t access log files.

  • So eventually gave up and asked ChatGPT that said it is likely because Fedora couldn’t access the graphics drivers (?) and would crash upon initialization and suggested waiting until Fedora 43 if I really wanted to use it hoping that with a newer kernel that the LG Gram 2025 would be supported

  • It also suggested using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed which is what I did. Seems so far everything works (except for the audio that took a couple searches to figure out drivers for and the Keyboard LEDs that I couldn’t get running at all and so gave up on…for now)
