What is the “best” way to install Steam?
The two options I am currently aware of are:
- rpm from rpmfusion
- flatpak from flathub
what other pieces of software are required to game under linux?
fyi, I am on F42, gnome, wayland, Radeon graphics

I would go RPM so you dont have to think about Flatpaks.
ok, thank you for the suggestion. what would be the downside of the flatpak version? I love the idea to keep my system install clean…
is it still the case that Steam as rpm pulls in a lot of .i686 libraries that may cause issues when updating?
Test it out, try the install, check the packages and press ‘n’ if you are unhappy with it.
Sometimes I read about Flatpak permission issues and having to let certain things out of the sandbox. I dont really know as I dont use Flatpak.
Both work, you’ll get support for both so need to overthink it.
I have not seen any issues with updating with the RPMfusion RPM version of steam. It will pull in .i686 libs, as Steam does not work without them.
