Gnome software not working in mate

well simply enough from yesterday gnome software 3.32 is not working anymore, everytime i try to install an app i get a “waiting for installation” message or something like this and it stays like that forever, any help on how to make it work again?

for the record, i’ve already tried the terminal and dnf dragora and they both works

by the way, i am using fedora 30 mate.

Welcome to the community @247—please take a moment to go through the posts in the #start-here category if you haven’t already.

It’s probably a case of gnome-software being stuck. Could you please ensure that your system is up to date, and either

  • reboot
  • or kill the gnome-software process and restart it? You can kill it by using pkill -f gnome-software and then check to ensure it is not running with pgrep -fa gnome-software.

Hopefully that’ll fix it. If it doesn’t, we’ll look at the logs to investigate further.

You should also look at the logs and see if there is something useful.

In addition.
Do you have flatpak?
It happens when you try to install any applications or only for flatpak ones?

thanks for your answer, and thank you for the welcome, already rebooted but with no luck and uninstalled the app completely (dnf remove gnome-software) but didn’t help so i guess killing it will not help, but i will try anyway, will also have a look at the logs if i can

since none of the above worked i’m back with some logs from an installation, here i’m trying to install eolie, the web browser

This doesn’t tell nothing to me. Someone else?

@247 where are these logs coming from?

these are coming from

gnome-software --verbose

maybe i need to issue some other command?or report the other part of the log? (considering the log is very big)

No, sorry, I mean to look at the system logs. More informations here: Viewing logs in Fedora :: Fedora Docs

If with journalctl you can identity some lines related to gnome-software, packagekit, network issues, coredumps and so on.

No it’s my fault, i will have a look at it via journalctl…thanks anyway…

I installed Mate spin. And here gnome software works. I installed flathub repository and it still works.
So there is something odd in your configuration.

From the command line, could you provide the output of these commands?

it asked me to import a key for a fedora repo but that didn’t solve my issue…

I don’t know. I’m unable to reproduce the issue, even with the same repositories enabled.

Try to do some clean up:

flatpak repair --user
sudo flatpak repair
sudo dnf clean all

I think it’s another instance of this bug, which is being discussed here already:

https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/gnome-software-is-only-showing-snap-applications/75364/22

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/issues/661

If so, it’s a libxmlb bug, and on Fedora 30 should be fixed by running this command and restarting gnome-software (kill the process and re-launch it, or I think in the “updates” tab, press ctrl and click the refresh icon):

sudo dnf upgrade --enablerepo=updates-testing --advisory=FEDORA-2019-a956e3fd82

trying it now…will edit the post accordingly…

edit: thanks but none of the above commands worked, was going to try the command in the other suggestion but seems a different issue to me…

Well, can you open a terminal and run this command?

pkmon

Then start gnome-software and try to install an applicaton.
Go back to the terminal window and look if it says something interesting (transactions in progress, errors, timeouts, etc).

pkmon is the command line client for PackageKit. What is PackageKit? PackageKit is a system designed to make installing and updating software on your computer easier. The primary design goal is to unify all the software graphical tools used in different distributions, and use some of the latest technology like PolicyKit.

Then we’ve probably run into another bug. Would you please consider reporting it here?

trying it now, the first thing i noticed while opening the app is this

network status=offline

is this normal considering i am online?

i will report the entire log but i don’t think there’s something useful considering the log does not do nothing while installing an app, either in flatpak nor rpm…

Where do you see this?

So, just a clarification, these log are written when gnome-software start. When you install something, it doesn’t appear any new line?
