Fedora 41 mate on old laptop and vpn

Hello everyone,

My name is Mauro and I live in Italy.

I’m relatively new to Linux (about 2 years) and I’ve mainly focused on openSUSE Slowroll. Then, due to the need to install a VPN, I started to prefer Fedora. In the past, my old 16-year-old laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, 4GB of RAM (maximum supported), and a recent SSD had problems with Fedora 37, 38, and 39. Then I came across a new DE with Fedora 41 MATE and I was amazed: my laptop feels like new. Even with Proton VPN running at startup and a few Chrome browser tabs open, it performs really well in everyday use, especially considering the dated hardware.

Thank you, Fedora.
