Dear all.
I like to test new distros, I have now installed fedora 41 and it works perfectly. Only the ad-on dash to dock does not work. This is for information purposes.
Thanks for the wonderful distro.

Added f41, fedora-rawhide
What DE did you test? Plasma, gnome, something else?
Dash to Dock is a Gnome Extension, F41 hasn’t released yet and the Extension has not been made compatabile with it.
You need to take this up with the Author, Maintainer of the project, this is not a Fedora or Gnome issue.
workstation 41 pre-release
there is no Fedora 41 pre-release. What will become Fedora 41 will be branched from rawhide on August 6th.
https://fedorapeople.org/groups/schedule/f-41/f-41-key-tasks.html
By the time it gets released in October or November, the extension will likely work…
Removed f41
Unless you want to be a tester I recommend you use released fedora 40.
If you want to be a tester then wait for the beta of f41 to be released.
If I keep updating and upgrading, I will eventually reach beta
Thanks for the effort
Sjaak
Unfortunately if you install rawhide and execute the hotnamectl comand you get prerelese showed.
Operating System: Fedora Linux 41 (MATE-Compiz Prerelease)
I installed it from the Fedora-MATE_Compiz-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20240711.n.0.iso
My question now, how do I know exactly which version it is/I use?
Do I “just” see it on the Git and date in the Kernel name?
uname -a
Linux $HOSTNAME 6.10.0-0.rc7.20240712git43db1e03c086.62.fc41.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Jul 12 22:31:14 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux
rawhide can break in unrecoverable ways.
Just so long as you know what risks you are taking.
Added f41, gnome, gnome-extensions, user-experience
This always happens when following upstream closely or even pre-release.
In case of Rawhide, if GNOME 47 is unreleased, you should not expect a single compatible Addon.
Thunderbird had the same, DKIM verifier is still not ported, but luckily “TB Conversations” works!
With rawhide, there is actually no version, it’s rolling….
Sorry to but in , but I have a couple of issues with Fedora 41 and am unsure where to post them. I would like to be sure that someone might take a look at them and make some effort to fix them.
Anyway the two main problems are, DnfDragora Update, After a Clean Install of fedora 40/41 , there are quite a few updates. Thats fine One can expect that. But When the Update Proces has Finnished The Computer becomes Unresponsive. You should get some Notice that it has in fact finished and they recommend to Reboot. But No that doesn’t happen. And all I can do with the Machine is hit the Reset Button or Uplug the Power and reboot it.
Next is the Missing Software App. If you want to install anything there is No Software App to do this. What I do is run this command in the Terminal ( sudo dnf install gnome-software ). That’s a bit like when you buy a new car and then discover it has no gear stick. So you go and complain to the Agent and he says the car is controlled by IT or a Robot, and that a Gear Stick is Optional.
Sorry , I forgot to mention that my o/s is Cinnamon Version
Suggest you can Raise tickets on fedora’s bug tracker and/or join the fedora test mailing list and ask there.
Reporting here is unlikely to reach a package maintainer.
