Hi everyone,
Would love to pick up an external (USB) fingerprint reader to use with my desktop to avoid having to repetitively enter passwords.
I know it’s a long-shot, but does anyone know of one which:
Plays nice with the latest version of Fedora Desktop?
Can integrate with 1Password?
TIA
Probably 5 years ago I bought a random $10 fingerprint reader off eBay and recall it working fine somewhere in Fedora 20-30.
I believe fingerprint readers “just work” and integrate with GNOME, if they work on Linux in-general. I’m not sure with integration with 1Password.

You can find a list of unsupported devices here (libfprint is the ibrary for fingerprint readers used by fprint used by Gnome):

Thank you for linking us this information. I was also in the market for a fingerprint reader with similar requirements as Daniel.

Hi
Thanks for the good info, but the problem I am having is the vendors of the USB Fingerprint readers on sites like aliexpress, ebay and amazon usually do not display info on the chipset used on the readers they are selling.
So has anyone come across any known working USB fingerprint readers, preferable a small compact one for a laptop.
Thx.

Did anyone ever find a known working USB-A fingerprint reader? Would be nice to be able to use one on my desktop that doesn’t have one.

That is often because they sell units with different chipsets under the same model name. Stick with a vendor that does specify the chipset.
