I’ve used Cinnamon for probably 10 years (and currently on F42, updated about 1 week ago).
Since last using window screen shot about a month ago, the key combination Alt-PrintScreen no longer takes and saves a window screenshot image into my assigned screenshots folder.
On push of Alt: nothing.
On press of PrintScreen: nothing.
Release of PrintScreen: nothing.
Release of Alt: show the window menu for the application I’m trying to screen shot.
I looked through:
but nothing seem to fit.
Running command manually with 5 second delay does do a window screen shot.
Pressing PrintScreen by itself: takes fullscreen screenshot.
So: Alt key is recognised, Print Screen key is recognised, and the window screen shot function of the app is operational.
It seems something is stealing/misinterpreting the key combination ?
How can I fix this ?
… this week’s updates mostly kde stuff (on my cinnamon desktop). plus a kernel update.
Window screenshot by pressing Alt PrintScreen is working again
Current packages (date installed) on x86_64:
gnome-screenshot-41.0-11.fc42 (2025-05-31)
spectacle-6.4.3-1.fc42 (2025-07-24)
cinnamon-6.4.9-1.fc42 (2025-05-31)
selinux-policy-42.1-1.fc42 (2025-07-24)
kernel-6.15.7-200.fc42 (2025-07-24)
From what I read, cinnamon uses gnome-screenshot, but this didn’t change. How would I check what Alt-PrintScreen binding calls (to shed light on how it got resolved) ?
I would not usually comment without reading issues in-depth, but some times Spectacle fails to launch on me for unknown reasons.
Like, it doesn’t launch at all.
Some other times instead it crashes when I click “new screenshot” regardless if I’ve already taken one or not.
