Print Screen Key Not Working After Fedora 42 Update

Hello Fedora Community,

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with my print screen functionality after updating to Fedora 42. Here are the details:

Problem Description:

  • Print screen key is completely non-functional
  • Issue occurs on both:
    • Notebook keyboard
    • Bluetooth keyboard
  • Screenshot menu in GNOME Control Panel works fine

What I’ve Already Tried:

  • Rebooting the system
  • Checking keyboard settings
  • Verifying keyboard layout

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? Any help would be much appreciated!

It’s very simple to fix if you’re using any screenshot apps, for example ksnip, you can install it from Flathub then just create a custom shortcut for your keyboard layout in the keyboard settings with the command like this:

/usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=ksnip org.ksnip.ksnip

Then assign any key combos, even PrintScreen and configure further settings for the ksnip.

Actually, I only want to use the tool provided by Gnome and I have set this up in the settings:

With everything else there are only problems because of Flatpak/Wayland or fractional scaling

Got it, it’s painful when switching layouts between US, GB or ES, etc. by default PrintScreen didn’t work for me either with GB layout, well I just bind it to ksnip and now it works with this screenshot app. Consider it as an alternative solution.

I have just tried the tool, but when I want to take a screenshot, the main monitor goes black and I can only select the black area and cannot select the secondary monitor at all.

There are lots of settings in the app, it takes time to get used to but it can be adjusted in various ways.

If you use the extension “Soft Brightness Plus” , you have to disable the extension to take a screenshot.

Today I realized that it doesn’t work because of the package GPU Screen Recorder. I don’t know why, because it simply had no function at all then.
