VMWare Wkstn Pro 16 + FC35 = no sound and slow video playback

Hello all,

I’ve installed Fedora Desktop FC35 on VMWare Workstation 16 (on Win10). I’m having two issues:

  1. No audio
  2. Very slow video playback performance in YouTube

I checked that the sound device is enabled in VMWare and video RAM is set for 8GB. I checked that vmware workstation tools were installed in Fedora. I followed the steps to install ffmpeg-libs. Lspci detected the VMWare SVGA II adapter and Ensoniq ES1371/ES1373/CT2518 sound controller. I’m not seeing any errors in the system log related to video or sound devices.

I saw a post on /r/Fedora that pipewirer doesn’t work under VMWare and to revert to pulseaudio. I don’t know if that’s accurate, and am also not sure how to make this change.

Any pointers would be welcome.

Yes pipewire don’t support vmware you can go with virtualbox by oracle or kvm qmeu vm
