Updates to Fedora Badges

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone! I’m Nikita Tripathi, a sophomore pursuing BTech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. I am the Outreachy '22 (May-Aug) intern and I am responsible for creating a new Badge Template, update the Badges Style Guide and upgrade Badge Artworks, under the guidance of Marie Nordin and Smera Goel.

NEW BADGE TEMPLATE

The Research

I explored 25 existing digital badges on different platforms in an attempt to get familiar with popular styles and discover the scope of self-improvement.

New Template

I thought of accommodating, the future possibility of dark mode being enabled for the Fedora websites, in the badges.

Here are a few of the iterations I made:
The first row shows original badges after which, the even rows show unique designs and their corresponding odd rows show the same design but with an inner drop shadow (something we wanted to experiment on)

STYLE GUIDE UPDATES

The original Official Fedora Badges Style Guide is now almost a decade old and over the years many unwritten rules were identified. To accomodate these and to give the style guide a modern refresh, I designed the new style guide:

UPDATING OLD ART

There were some badges that needed updating of the artwork, for which I created original grahics while learning about the fedora aesthetic with my mentors:

END NOTE

It has been awesome working at badges design and I welcome feedback, criticism and suggestions from everyone.

Looking forward to your comments!

Thank you very much for working on this! As silly as it may seem to some, these badges are an important community thing and deserve a bit of extra attention. I like.

I absolutely agree with @jakfrost . The new FrOSCon badges were already great work. Thanks!

The new work looks great and yes, I also think the badges provide good value in that they can help provide a visual overview of an individual contributor’s role and experience in Fedora based on the quantity and distribution.
Thanks for your contributions
