Touchpad doesn't right click

Hello,

I have a weird behaviour on the touchpad of my laptop. I can move around, simple click and double click with it, but the right click seems not working. It doesn’t show me the context menu with ‘open in the terminal’ and other options.

Meanwhile, with my Bluetooth mouse, I can do everything and the right click works without issue.

I use an HP Pavilion 14 laptop ce-2014-nf.
I know that HP isn’t necessarily Linux friendly but so far I’m doing quite okay. I use Fedora 42 Workstation.

Since my Bluetooth mouse is working, I am not in urgency to fix that issue, but I still wish to ask for advice in case a command/GUI allows to check the state of the touchpad and maybe reconfigure it later on if I really need this.

Thanks in advance !

Welcome to fedora
Icam assuming you are on gnome version of fedora.
By default gnome use both click as primary click in your case it is left click and two fingers tap use as secondary click for your case it is right click.
And hp pavillion series usually have a good linux support…

Thanks, I’ve been using fedora for around a month and a half, soon two months now !
Yes I’m on Gnome indeed. I didn’t know there was such moves by default. Is there a way I can do the right click as primary move ? I’m not used at all at what you said, the 3 finger move or such.

Right click on the touchpad is being recognized as a left click - #2 by vgaetera

By default gnome use double tap or or double click to open a file and for extra menu just use 2 finger tap or click for right click and three finger swipe for workspace

That is simple.

Now if you want dedicated left and right click.
You can do this using

Or gnome tweaks

And i would recommend give 2days and you will be used to it as it is most efficient to use a touchpad/trackpad..
But it is upto you to decide what you like.

Yeah I mean, I use mainly my Bluetooth mouse so it’s not urgent to change this ! I installed tweaks before to custom window styles and such so I guess I can look around there first. Thanks you both for your advice !

Edit : thanks to your explanation I finally understood how to do it lol  indeed it’s easy enough, I’m just glad that the context menu is somewhere to be found. I guess I don’t need to change it now that I know.
