Super key does not seem to work after a fresh install

I hope this is the right forum for this…

I did a new install of F36 but find that pressing the Super key or Super + A key doesn’t list the applications. Super + S doesn’t work either.

Is there a way to reinstall the gnome portion to try to fix this? Or, does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!
Did you manually remove or redefine those shortcuts? I am asking because it’s working fine on my F36 and F37beta installs.

You may want to try resetting all shortcuts: SettingsKeyboardView and Customize: there is a button “Reset All…”

No, I just did the installation and booted into the system.

I tried what you suggested with the same result.

Can you please provide some more information? What install media did you use, for example? The output of this command would be very useful: sudo fpaste --sysinfo --printonly.

My first thought would be that the super key is mapped to something else (or is not working at all). What keyboard are you using (hardware)? What keyboard layout are you using?

My keyboard is a logitech K350 and has the super key on the left between ctrl * alt with the function key in the same location on the left. My keyboard is using the standard US english layout.

As Ankur suggests, tell us the keyboard and layout being used since even the layout can change the key mappings.

Another thing to consider is if Fedora is running on bare metal or in VM. Maybe super key isn’t forwarded correctly to the vm.

Thanks for the help, folks! Here goes:

My keyboard (Microsoft Corp. Natural Keyboard Pro) layout is US.

The command output is:

It’s bare metal.

My keyboard (Microsoft Corp. Natural Keyboard Pro) layout is US.

The super key is working for everything else, just not bringing up the application list or the search box. That’s why I’m wondering did something go wrong during the install.

I’ve been running f36 since it came out but because my hard drive was failing, I switched to an SSD drive and did a clean install with these problems as a result.

Do you have another keyboard to try with?

When you login are you running gnome-classic or are you running a regular gnome session?

If you’re running gnome-classic please switch to gnome and see if it works as expected.

That did the trick! I inadvertently chose Gnome class on Xorg instead of Gnome on Xorg. I never would have thought to look there. Many thanks
