Struggling with images vignette | Thumbnail previews | Gnome 46

Since 2 days i struggling like in fedora 39 , with image preview with Nautilus and with file window picking . Was able to see all my previews 2 days ago , was able to see previews in image picking ( choosing an image to use in vivaldi browser for examples) and was also able to clik and move image on vivaldi to use it with comfyui , i can’t do that anymore getting typeerror: failed to fetch , a lot of images are now showing icons instead of images . didn’t change anything in my settings
just did updates as usual

Added gnome

I use ffmpegthunailer that will solve the problems.

thanks, but tell me if i’m wrong this is a kde app so will it download a bunch of other packages ?, and i’m asking myself why was it working perfectly before ? updates aren’t they supposed to increase effectiveness instead of decreasing it

I use Gnome and didn’t have the thumbnailer by default, so I had to install the ffmpegthumbnailer so it can do the thunmbails ( including .avif, .webp, svg ).

That i am aware it is not a KDE app, is just produces the thumbnails for me in Files Gnome.

It could be an issue with the cache, there is a config file you can remove to allow it to rebuild the thumbnails.

We should, not sure why you have that? Although I did get that as well, I just did not post it.

Ah ok, it comes from RPMFusion-free. . .

Hmm, maybe there is another tool or something else we can do.

Normally, i’m supposed to get package from rpm fusion ???

Yeah, that particular package is in RPMFusion. Like I said earlier, if you don’t want to do that, maybe we can try something else.

what should i do to get it thru rpm fusion ?

i found it , no worries, and thanks a lot for your help

Added nautilus, sushi

Since you said it was working before, you could try:

Delete the thumnails cache and log out or restart
~/.cache/thumbnails/

GNOME should support file previews without rpmfusion? This is a bug but I found your description pretty confusing.

There is sushi, the file previewer for Nautilus, I dont know if it embeds itself in the app or is just used to preview things (which would make less sense)
