Dear community,
I am hunting an answer for this since a while, but did not find one. Thus, I dare to ask whether somebody knows a solution for the following problem.
I am running Fedora 43 with Gnome Desktop 49 (OS is updated to the current day).
I have two major Display/Audio configurations:
- Single screen mode with audio output to the sound card and stereo desk speakers
- Dual screen mode with a TV set on the opposite side of the room and its own 5.1 speaker system. Both connected through HDMI optical cable.
Eventually there are other modes like e.g., Video conferencing with different screen/audio/camera settings.
Each time I switch working modes, from office to multimedia and back, I need to manually change all parameters for screens and audio.
Does anybody know a suitable software (Gnome extension, bash script, Gnome GUI application, etc.), which – once setup – does the switching with a single click or quick button?
I had tried scripting, but fail on Wayland with xrandr, autorandr, etc.
As an alternative: Is there an extension, which permits to play sound through the correct speakers: e.g., if the window playing the sounds is located on the TV screen, play the sound through the TV speaker system and if it is located on the office display, it should play through the desk speakers? I doubt that this is feasible with Gnome’s sound infrastructure, but still date to ask the question.
Any hint on such tools (either installing or programming them) would be highly appreciated.
Thank you for any feedback in advance!
Best regards
Thomas
