As part of the process I changed my surname from Salim to Lind, getting it closer to my ancestors’ original 林 ( a lot of us Chinese-Indonesians were forced to change our surnames under the military dictatorship, see https://archive.is/339Nn ) so it feels like freedom in more ways than one.
The whole process of getting new identification documents will take a few months, but starting from today expect to see “Michel Lind” instead of “Michel Alexandre Salim” in commits and RPM changelogs!
Congratulations! I know that for those who migrate here, the process of becoming a U.S. Citizen can be very long and arduous. I’m very lucky because I was born here. If I had to go through all that you did to become a citizen, I’m nor sure I’d have been successful.
And can I ask - as you go though Fedora, if there are any applications you’re struggling to change your name (display name or otherwise) and/or have to manually change your name and it doesn’t sync from FAS - I’d like to know!
Both username and display name are synced from FAS initially, but we’ve configured it so local changes to display name here persist. (You can actually change the FAS username associated with your account here — see How can I change my username? - #4 by mattdm)
