Problems when switching bluetooth headphones profiles (Fedora 41, Sony WH-CH720N)

Sony WH-CH720N can work in two modes: headset (no microphone) and handsfree (with microphone).

Before Fedora 41 update, I could easily switch between them, and selecting Handsfree as an input device would automatically switch to the output device. Now it’s quite a mess.

  1. Selecting Handsfree input device still switches the output device to the handsfree mode, but it uses the internal microphone for audio input (even though it shows the input device to be the handsfree)
  2. Selecting WH-CH720N normally does nothing as it’s not a real device, but selecting it after performing the actions described above magically activates the microphone on my headphones and fixes the problem (even if I switch the input device back to Handsfree)
  3. Previously, when I switched the output device back to headset, it would automatically choose the internal microphone as my input device. Now it still does it but displays the input device to be Handsfree

Hi Anton,

I had the same experience … I solved it by just completely removing the device and re pairing it (Sony WF1000MX4) …

Hi Einer,

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately that didn’t help in my case
