Permanently disable spell check in Text Editor

I want spell check in Text Editor gone. Permanently.

Every time I start Text Editor it starts up with spell checking on. Can’t find any of the config files to manually disable it either, for some reason all the paths/files ChatGPT suggests aren’t there.

OS: Fedora 41 Workstation Edition.

Had a revelation. Text Editor isn’t stored under “gedit” or “gnome-text-editor”, but “TextEditor”. Used dconf-editor and looked up something with text, and there it was.

Would be lovely if we could have a nice point-and-click option to permanently disable spellchecking.

It’s there in the preferences:

No it isn’t. If it were that simple, I would have used it.

Maybe they moved it to a different location in the Prefs. Apparently it used to be in the View menu, here is a ticket from over a year ago:

That is exposed in the View menu of the header bar as “Check Spelling”.

In the last few versions it’s in the main preferences.

With version 48 it is (back) in Preferences, as a global setting.

I found it here:

This has bothered me for months, and it turns out it’s hiding under another button.

Yes, that’s the place in version 47.
