recently upgraded to fedora 44 KDE plasma.
since the update my Krita freezes after a few minutes, then my laptop restarts. very annoying, I can’t get any work done.
The system is up to date, as is krita (was on the beta, now on the newest version).

Do you have the RPMfusion nvidia drivers installed?
Have you checked the user and system journals for errors around the time the freeze happens?
i have the drivers installed. as for the journals, it said Krita was killed by SIGSEGV
Given you are seeing your system restart I wonder if you have a memory hardware issue.
You could install memtest86+ and run the memory test overnight to check.
Can you share the log line please?
