Is there a "Fedora Switzerland/Zürich"?

I just wanted to reach out to the community to see if we have people from the Zurich area of Switzerland around.

With the UK SIG and the Fedora Local London Meetup in mind, I would like to see if there is interest to do something comparable (or something else) there.

I am not yet there, but it is possible that I will soon start to commute between Zurich and London, and thus spend a lot of time in the area. It would be nice to know if there are fellow Fedorians in the area :slight_smile:

Hey! I’m from Zurich, Switzerland originally and though I have now moved away, I wanted to say I’d support this and any time I go back I’d be there :smiley:

At the moment, it looks like I move at the very end of July. We might set up something casual at some public place in the city where drinks and such are available and where we can use notebooks, just in case, and then see who joins.

I bump this topic to see if there is still interest: I would suggest to start with something simple and flexible.

My suggestion would be to meet at a cafe or so, somewhere at the center. Preferably an area easy to reach from any direction, at the best close to the Zurich HB so that people from other areas might also be able to attend. My suggestion would be some date in mid or the second part of March.

In UK, we focused on Mo to Fri evenings, which has proven to be the time most people are interested. I am open to alternatives of course, but in case of a doubt, I would stick with that.

Everyone who is in travel distance to Zurich shall feel free to let us know their preferences, I am so far quite flexible in March. Suggestions for other cities are welcome as well of course.

If you see my Debian on my notebook when we meet, would it be problem for you? I would be so ashamed of!

Everyone can use the operating system they want. This is just a meeting of the Fedora Community, for people who feel affiliated with the Community. The operating system you use on your notebook is not relevant :wink:

By the way, we already did joint events with other communities (e.g. OpenSuSE), we are all friends here :wink:

I’m also in Switzerland and often in ZH. Happy to join, though I’ll be away for a conference at the end of March.

How about Tuesday, 11th March, Wednesday, 12th March or Thursday, 13th March for everyone? Feel free to add other dates.

I will be at a cafe or something comparable on Wed 19th March in the area around the Zurich HB between at least 16:30 and 18:00 local time. I have always sufficient to do on my laptop so I do not lose any time anyway :classic_smiley: Feel free to join: if others join I’m of course happy to stay beyond 18:00.

I will post the exact address here around 16:30 once I found something that has place for some people. It should be realistic to find something in 10 min walking distance to the Zurich HB.

I have to update the date: not 19th but 20th (sorry, if anyone already considered 19th but cannot 20th, let me know, then I can make it possible, but something came up so that I would like to avoid 19th).

I aim for the Il Baretto within Zurich HB, the one at ground floor next to the SBB infopoint at rail 16/17, not the one downstairs. I sometimes work there when I’m in the area anyway, usually there is sufficient space because most people have their stuff for take away. 16:30 will work. I update this post if I don’t get a table. Maybe see you there :wink:
