Hello,
If I want to install F43 in the new installer with my own set of partitions using EXT4 instead of the auto-formatted setup using btrfs.
How do I format the EFI partition?
KDE partition manager has no ‘efi’ choice, only ‘FAT 32’, ‘FAT16’, ‘Exfat’ but they don’t qualify according to the new installer, it has to be formatted as ‘efi’.
Does this mean that manual partitioning is over, or is there another way to format a partition as ‘efi’?
[EDIT] Also when using fdisk and select 1 EFI as format the installer does not accept it.
Why are you using KDE partition manager instead of partitioning in the storage editor inside the new installer? (Granted, the storage editor is a bit hidden under the ︙ in the upper right.) I just checked in a VM, I can create a partition and format it as “EFI system partition” in the storage editor in the new installer.
If you insist on using KDE Partition Manager, I think this is how to do it: Technically, the EFI system partition is just a FAT32 partition. Create a partition, format it as FAT32, apply changes, open the properties of the partition and select the ‘boot’ flag, apply again. When I did this, cfdisk shows this partition as type “EFI System”.
Hi,
You asked a question and gave the answer yourself.
I had not seen this. Will look. The KDE partition manager is the one I know and could find.
I then thought to be clever and started an installation with the automatic system and once it passed the partitioning I stopped the installation and restarted it chosing the manual way.
I now have a Efi partition but am facing trouble with the EXT4 ones which are not recognized.
Your way sounds better so I will try that.
Thanks for your help.
Now I know why I didn’t see the partitioner in the installer, I was already 1 step too far. I did see the button with the dots in the top right corner but the partitioner was grayed out so I couldn’t use it.
When I finally passed the partitioning step and could start the installation process it said: Failed. Reason: no internet connection. With all the reboots I did I did forget to connect my wifi.
At this moment the installation process is under way and reaching 80%.
Lars, thank you very much. Once again you helped me big time.
