Improved on-screen keyboard for fedora/gnome

For other touchscreen users there is a relatively new extension for a full onscreen keyboard available in the exentions manger. Maybe it’s because I am new to Fedora from Ubuntu but I wasted a lot of time searching F36 for any settings or options re onscreen keyboard only to find there are none. The improved keyboard via ext mgr solves a lot of input problems if you are using a touch device.
Open extensions manager and search onscreen keyboard.
Hope this is helpful.

Onboard is an onscreen keyboard useful for everybody that cannot use a
hardware keyboard; for example TabletPC users, mobility impaired users…
It has been designed with simplicity in mind and can be used right away
without the need of any configuration, as it can read the keyboard layout
from the X server.

Hi there,

In my opinion onboard is horrible though it may do the job this is like the equivilant of a windows 95 on screen keyboard. It doesn’t feel natural like the w10 touch screen keyboard you know how it slides up from the top when you tap on a typebox. Onboard will overlap a window so it will be blocking your view instead of how the w10 pushes the view above the keyboard.

I think it would be better if the built in fedora screen keyboard was improved to be more natural, a full amoled black theme, & can show a full keyboard key’s then just the typical keys like your on a phone. I think it’s better to improve on whats in fedora then having to resort to a third party installation. I’ve had issues myself looking for something that would feel like the w10 touchscreen keyboard.

I tried xvkbd that was ugly & in a seperate window does the job but it’s not a natural touchscreen keyboard it’s a window you have to keep open all the time & the key size when you stretch the window is just a horrible look. I hope developers improve upon this because I bet there are a lot of people who are on the go like me.

When you’re out & about all day traveling sometimes you don’t have an opportunity to sitdown pull out your keyboard & plugin then sit there & do some work. I also like to travel light & since more laptops are being built as a 2 in one detachable keyboard use as tablet I would think this would be considered a important thing to improve on.

We got HP Elites, Microsoft surface tablets, samsung tablets, lenovo’s & etc. It would be really nice to completely leave the keyboard behind & never have to bring it with you.

BTW onboard was retired from Fedora , because don’t have maintainer
