So a few days ago I chose to upgrade Fedora 39 to 40, I was holding back because a few Gnome extensions I use weren’t up to date with Gnome 46.
The installation process has gone smoothly except for 2 things, the first one being wireplumber
failing to start (outdated config files in /etc
and getting rid of them fixed it).
I’m running an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506QR_TUF566QR
laptop, AMD Ryzen 7 5800h
, Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 Mobile
, and 16x2 (32gb) 3200mhz sodimm ddr4
.
The problem I currently have and haven’t been able to fix for the past few days by myself is Vulkan behaving weirdly (on system and flatpak).
Proton games running trough dxvk will either use my integrated gpu (even if forced to use the dgpu trough env), or crash after loading a bit further due to Vulkan errors.
Vulkan games themselves will be prone to randomly crashing with Vulkan related errors in console (not the same for all games), vkcube runs just fine.
Errors include but not limited to VK_KHR_surface
extension not existing even if it’s shown in vulkaninfo.
note: I’m not sure what is the root cause of the vulkan errors is at all.
I have tried reinstalling and downgrading both nvidia-drivers and vulkan, or trying various env variables with no luck.
I have not found any suspicious config files, everything seems to be running fine (except vulkan).
This appears to affect both Wayland/Xwayland and X11.
I’d be happy to find a solution to this weird issue, I’m okay with providing any logs needed trough termbin or any other paste services.
ps: I did my best at writing this post hopefully it’s readable
