Graphical Issues on Wake-Up

Whenever I press the power button to wake up my pc it is always a gamble, sometimes it works perfectly and other times it has some graphical issue that totally prevents me from using my system.

The most common occurrence when waking my computer is a kernel panic with the message of “Fatal Error in Interrupt”. Sometimes my monitors just stay black or don’t on. Sometimes weirder things happen like the login screen appearing but not showing the necessary ui to enter my password. Luckily all of these issues get fixed after restarting my pc… until it happens again. It has only ever happened after waking up my computer and never actually on the initial boot.

In the error log the most common thing and probably the issue is this “GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT” in kwin_wayland

I have tried many things to fix this already such as updating BIOS or removing X11 from my system since these problems seemed to happen a little after I installed it. I’ve changed plasma themes, disabled internal graphics, reset kscreen configs, updated the kernel and fedora, set both monitors to the same fps, and probably more things I am forgetting. I have sort of run out of options so I am asking anyone for any sort of help. You would be a lifesaver since I am considering moving back to windows because of these issues.

A-ha! So I’m not alone with this, “thank god”. I also noticed this lately, I also just opened a thread: Screen turns black, everything goes unresponsive

I think it’s kernel related, yet again..

This 100%. I’m experiencing the same, black screen, and no input seems to wake it up, only restarting PC solves the issue.

If problems like that happens to me, I always fall back to Linux Mint, cause it’s just as reliable in the long run, as Windows was. I suggest you to start familiarizing yourself to it, I’m also already considering yet another switching back to it, cause Fedora is just having issues atop of issues every single day lately, and because of that, my productivity is already nearing zero due to constant troubleshooting.

Facing a similar issue ever since the 6.15 kernel release and upwards, suspend/resume just no longer works freezing up the system.

I ended up reverting to a previous kernel version, 6.14.11-300.fc42.x86_64 which thus far has been stable.

Thanks for sharing the 6.14 idea. Confirmed here also, reverting back to 6.14 solved everything. No idea why Fedora is rushing this much on the bleeding edge for kernels, but in the past week, I barely could rely on this operating system at all… I think I’m not gonna upgrade my Fedora until the release of F43. No idea when, or why, but Fedora was used to be a reliable OS, not on the edge, which is true for most of the softwares, but kernel-wise it’s just totally unpredictable, and it’s the main core of the OS. Officially supported LTS would be cool to have.

My next day update: I was too hastly for saying it resolved the issue, it did not. Things just got even worse, blurry resolution cause 6.14 is not loading my Nvidia drivers properly, even after a manual akmods. At this point I’m heading back to Linux Mint honestly, I just can’t waste more of my time and energy on constant fedora issues and troubleshooting on a daily basis, I’m burnt out. OP I suggest you to also come to Mint, it’s a chill place, I used it for 5+ years. I only left Mint back then cause vkbasalt didn’t had i386 support, but at this point I say I can live without it, in favor for reliability of my OS.

Thanks I’ll try this out! I’ll mark it as resolved if it works!

Hi everyone, I'm having this problem too. Every time the screen locks and I move the mouse or press a key, my laptop's external display switches to a VGA resolution of 640x480. Nothing happens on the internal display. I've also tried suspending and resuming, but the situation is worse; I see graphical glitches on the external display. Question: Could it have something to do with qt6-qtwayland? I had the black screen with a message two months ago. Updating that package to version 6.9.1-3 "fixed" that problem.

It’s a fedora issue, I switched back to Linux Mint and all these issues are gone. I think it’s the way of how fedora patches their kernel, something is very bugged in it, cause I tried fedora numerous of times, and this exact same issue (suspension problem, black screen, unresponsive peripherials) were always there, and I read so many people having this same issue, and it was never actually solved, but replacing the whole distribution to something better, like Debian based or Ubuntu based (such as Mint) basically fixed all the fedora issues.

Yesterday the qt6-wayland package was updated to version 6.9.2-1 and I can confirm that after testing the lock screen for several hours, the issue was resolved for me.
