Fedora F42 cant update firmware since it never start flash process, atomics it hangs on restart screen and freezes, on mutable it just reboots normally and then you see the updates still there
I had the same experience with a bios update for a Dell XPS 15 laptop on Rawhide. In this case the update file from Dell was only available as an exe file, so I had to update the “old fashioned way” of downloading it to a USB stick and then using the Dell Bios Flash software to update. I’m not sure Linux’s fwupd can handle an . exe file (?) Your case may be different however.
well i am on DELL XPS 15 too so issue might just then be wrong file format on fwupdmgr
On a Dell system, I experienced a case where a firmware update was downloaded (using fwupd), but did not get installed until a new kernel arrived. I assume the update targeted the new kernel.
phatle@kde:~$ uname -r 6.14.0-0.rc6.49.fc42.x86_64
i guess latest Kernel for now
Got firmware updated from Gnome OS with Gnome software center so might be fedora related issue
Can you check if it’s fwupd not running on reboot (another shim problem?) · Issue #8577 · fwupd/fwupd · GitHub
Thanks.
Seems to be related to this and i had sec boor on audit mode “partly enabled” and all updated on GnomeOS
