I clicked on the “Install Fedora” pane and it just asked about 3rd party repos, but did not install anything. How do I actually install Fedora on the hard drive? Apologies if this is a dumb question.
Actually, you do not have to enable third-party repos during the installation. You can search the web or youtube to find a way to install it properly. The installation is simple: just click Install Fedora on hard drive icon on the desktop, select things correctly and click begin installation. Then reboot
I did that, and after the question about the repos, nothing happened.
One critical step is selecting the drive (Installation location) and having unallocated space on the destination drive. If there is no available space it will always fail.
It also provides the option to reclaim space if necessary.
It did not even give me that option.
You may need to select the custom install to be able to reclaim space.
If you still have issues then from the live media you could install gparted and use that to modify the drive being installed to and allow free space to use.
Yes. I actually just realized that. I’ll try to install gpartition or something like that.
If you still have a macOS installation on your MBA, you could use Mac’s Disk Utility to create free space (formatted partition, if unformatted not possible).
Then, in case you’re installing Fedora Workstation, after booting into the live session, before starting the installation, you can start GNOME Disk Utility, already available in the graphical session, and delete the previously created partition, which will provide an unallocated free space. Then you can start the Fedora installation and go with automatic partitioning, which will recognize the empty space created in the previous step.
See here a couple of other recommendations for MacBook users.
