Fedora 41 KDE Wifi Disabled on Boot

Hi everyone,

Long time linux user here, but fairly new to Fedora. I bought a new intel Lunar Lake laptop expecting to have some issues on linux. To my surprise, basically everything works great on kernel 6.12, except I’m having a small issue with wifi on boot.

This is not a dualboot setup so my only installed operating system is Fedora. Fast boot and secure boot both disabled in UEFI. This is a fairly fresh Fedora install, except that I have enabled rpm-fusion and made sure linux-firmware is installed.

When my computer boots my wifi does not work, it appears disabled. Photo below showing the KDE interface.

I can turn on wifi through the toggle switch at the top left, and everything appears to be fine after that until my next boot, except that the wifi toggle switch still appears to be off. My wifi speeds are what I would expect as well. I am also unable to modify the wifi state any more past this point in the GUI, I cannot turn it off even if I turn on airplane mode.

Network card info

josh@fedora:~$ lspci -knn | grep Net -A2

Anyone seen this before or have any idea on how to get wireless to work on startup? It’s a minor annoyance at worst, but I’d still like to have it working properly.

Thanks in advance!

Small update, I set a KDE autostart script with the following command to get wifi to connect every time the computer starts.

#!/bin/bash
nmcli radio wifi on

Interestingly, when I check the status while connected to wifi, I see:

josh@fedora:~$ nmcli g
STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN METERED
connected full enabled disabled missing enabled no (guessed)

Connectivity full, wifi disabled. I am beginning to think there may be a driver bug that a future kernel will fix.

At least for now my wifi connects on startup, still would like to find the root of the issue.

This is fairly confusing. I could be misreading the lspci output but it looks like you have an ethernet adapter. However, I can see from above that you clearly have Wifi which is odd. Does your device have a ethernet port? Perhaps that output is simply the wrong device.

In order to verify could I get you to post the output of lshw?

I won’t lie, I am confused as well. The computer doesn’t have a dedicated ethernet port, but I would guess there is some kind of ethernet capability through the USB-C ports.

I may have grabbed the wrong device for my post, here’s the (very long) output from lshw.

josh@fedora:~$ sudo lshw

Thanks again

It just comes up that way (sometimes), you can look at the driver it is using to determine its type. Probably something to do with historical naming conventions. Nothing to worry about.

I was in the same boat as you with a Q423S and had to blacklist the asus_wmi module and then reboot. I saw that the device was picking up asus_wlan and it could not be unblocked in rfkill which lead me back to this particular module.

Since I am on Silverblue I had to run sudo rpm-ostree kargs --append=module_blacklist=asus_wmi but if you are not on an Atomic Desktop I think sudo modprobe -b asus_wmi will do the trick.

It looks like it is Intel Wireless. I just wanted to confirm that it was indeed wifi. It is odd you are having issues with Intel sense they typically have very good Linux support.
