No available connections in Fedora 36 KDE Plasma

Hi fedora folks , I have recently ran into a problem where i cant find any wireless connection on my device HP pavilion 14 . It was working fine recently but after a reboot it could not detect any WiFi connection. I have to use internet with the help of USB tethering.

Error - No connection available in place of WiFi signals.

Kernel - Linux 5.18.13-200.fc36.x86_64

Device Configuration -
Processors - intel i5 1235u
Graphics - Intel Mesa Graphics
Plasma Version - 5.25.3

Hi, post here output of inxi -Nzi and rfkill.

So no device is detected. Post here output of dmesg --level=err,warn, don’t use a screenshots this time, paste here text from terminal, select it and press Ctrl+e to format it.
Do you have any plane mode or WiFi switch on keyboard or laptop case?

Hi @ozeszty , the current output of dmesg --level=err,warn is too long , should i paste in parts? And yes there is plane mode switch on laptop but whenever i press it only enable Bluetooth not any wifi connection . I am having all these problems on laptop if you can suggest any function key that cause this problem because it happen out of the blue.

Reboot and rerun this command, output should be shorter but still, presumptively, contain wifi card errors.

Some laptops have network card information and configuration (enable/disable toggle) in BIOS, check if you can find anything there.

both don’t show any WiFi system.

Try booting some older kernel or live-booting known to work Fedora ISO. If it doesn’t work there, the card might have broken down, in that case you’ll have to unscrew bottom cover, check wifi card model and get some replacement. If it’s some older laptop model (separate BT adapter might suggest that), you may be able to buy much better adapter chepaly. Just make sure it’s compatible (with linux, antenna connectors and appropriate PCI port type).

Yup i have tried with other distros also and they also could not detect any WiFi and now i am also can’t try to connect any bluetooth device with my laptop and this laptop is my recent purchase , it still yet to complete 1 month . :smiling_face_with_tear:

inxi -Eaz will show BT device (we’ll see what model it is) and rfkill unblock all should enable BT (rfkill showed it software-blocked on your screenshoot).

the result of inxi -Eaz gives

o/p

Bluetooth:
Device-1: IMC Networks Wireless_Device type: USB driver: btusb v: 0.8

and with rfkill unblock all has just unblock the Bluetooth, the main problem is connection, every time i try to connect any device with my device , my laptop couldn’t establish a connection with the other device, it just stops and says setup wizard fails .

You’ll probably have to make a warranty claim.
Do you see any network devices in lspci or lsusb beside that BT USB one?

Hi @ozeszty , thanks for your assistance over this topic , actually I have found the current solution that is by reinstalling windows 11 in my system and automatically all starts working, I think it was about drivers that windows installed but I still can’t figure out how all drivers got uninstalled in first place if you have any solution.

Did you find any wifi related settings in BIOS? That might be changed directly from windows.

Just an aside here.
In the recent past there have been several cases where windows would turn off bluetooth and Linux was unable to use the interface until it was turned back on in windows prior to shutdown. That usually was seen as hard blocked, but not always.

No @ozeszty i just remove all installed partitions and just installed windows 11 in the device , initially i tried by enable network boot but it also did not work , so i just installed windows 11 fresh.

Yeah @computersavvy there are some recent events where Microsoft is trying to block install Linux in dual boot or completely removing support for them like for latest amd version lenovo thinkpad where Microsoft deliberately block users installing Linux , u have to some how change in some UEFI settings where new Linux users are afraid to go.
