Epson printer drivers

Epson does not have drivers for the Epson ET-2850 on their website. When I add the printer it says it requires additional drivers. Has anyone found a driver that will work for this printer for Fedora?

Input the model name here. Select “Linux RPM(x64)” since you’re on Fedora which uses *.rpm packages and unless you’re on an ancient machine, you’ll be using x86_64. Leave the location as US if you want English language. Or choose whatever other region you’re from if you want that language. Click “Search”. You should get a popup that’ll display at least two options. ET-2850 and ET-2850U. Select ET-2850 and you should end up on this page.

Download the driver and printer utility and then just install them with rpm like you would a regular *.rpm. Example below.

[brian@thinkpad ~]: sudo rpm -i ~/Downloads/epson-printer-utility-1.2.2-1.x86_64.rpm
[sudo] password for brian:
Install Message > Described entry of LITE in services.
Install Message > Backup file is /etc/services.bak.
systemd version = 257
Set the service file according to the systemd version.
Install Red Hat compatible service file.
Created symlink '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/ecbd.service' → '/usr/lib/systemd/system/ecbd.service'.
Created symlink '/etc/systemd/system/graphical.target.wants/ecbd.service' → '/usr/lib/systemd/system/ecbd.service'.
Install Message > Start /usr/lib/epson-backend/setup to change setup.
[brian@thinkpad ~]: sudo rpm -i ~/Downloads/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.8.6-1.x86_64.rpm
[brian@thinkpad ~]:

I don’t use Epson myself, but that should cover it. Epson installation doesn’t seem much different from installing the drivers for my Brother printer. Just a lot less verbose in it’s output in the terminal when installing.

Thank you Brian. You are awesome! It worked. I was struggling to figure this one out for a long time.
