I tried a ELECOM EX-G PRO trackball mouse recently and kind of liked the form-factor, but it was sticky with small movements. Popular suggestions involved replacing the Ruby bearing or the ball itself, but I didn’t keep it to try that (at that price I feel it should have the good stuff out-the-box). Trying to figure out mouse speed/accel settings with the DPI selector on the bottom was annoying.
I had a Nulea M511 Pro for a bit as my first trackball mouse and thought it was interesting, but returned to my regular HARPOON RGB PRO mouse for a bit. I kept giving it random tries over the weeks, and broke it back out after the EX-G PRO. I’m finding I like it a lot better now under KDE Plasma 6’s mouse config with no acceleration and -0.20 speed! I just have to figure out if I can position it more ergonomically.
The advice for other Trackballs about rubbing the ball on your forehead for the skin oil to improve smoothness surprisingly worked wonders! It wasn’t quite good-enough for the EX-G PRO, but the M511 Pro glides way nicer. I’ve heard silicone lubricant or dry teflon spray also recommended (ideally whatever used should be skin-safe).
Has anyone else used a Trackball mouse or use one today? How’d you like it? Any recommended settings?
Do you prefer centered-finger trackballs (like Nulea M511 Pro), or side-thumb ones (like ELECOM EX-G PRO), or perhaps something else? I saw this on Reddit with custom dual trackballs which looks really cool!
