Afternoon everyone. I’ve had this on my mind lately and felt like making a water cooler post about it. Maybe it will help someone out.
I teach some college classes in the general area data analytics/science. My background is applied economics; I’m very familiar with R, know enough pandas to be dangerous and have been dabbling with learning polars.
The past ~6 months or so I’ve pushed myself to setup and learn nvim to use as my IDE. I’ve just gotten tired of all the stuff they keep adding to Rstudio/positron/vscode that gets in my way and wanted something clean and simple that I had full control over.
What I struggled with the most was figuring out how to get an interactive repl open while editing that was easy to send lines to code to the repl with a keybind. I wanted something that was simple, limited in scope and idealy didn’t have any external dependencies (no tmux required).
I stumbled onto the following nvim plugin on github: toreerdmann/send-to-repl.nvim
The author has gone through a couple of iterations at this point. The intial iteration I forked and made a few edits, but the current iteration I think is pretty great and have been using it as-is. I’ve been using it for most of my personal editing as well as running live coding demos in my intermediate level course this semester.
If you find yourself in similar shoes, might be worth taking a look.
