What IDE to choose

Well I have some problems to find IDE or Text editor

What I need is build in or extension support for languages, web development, three.js, react, sass/scss, html/css, JavaScript as main and alternate rust, c++/c#, python

I have been using years of JetBrains and VScode, but I am starting to feel that I don’t want to use VScode just main reason and JetBrains I start to feel that pushing app images to install everything via toolbox is just not correct and switch ide when switch language/project is not good

JetBrains fleet is pretty good still WIP and only available on toolbox

Been testing full day Cosmic text-editor and it feels really solid considering it is still alpha and WIp, but yes it is missing things I am used to go formatting → prettier AI → GitHub copilot etc

Zed is a spiritual successor to Atom that has some AI features if you want to use them. I tried it out for a while before it was open sourced and it was a little too feature-lite at that point. While a good editor with some IDE-like features, I ended up sliding back to VS Code for my main coding projects.

It has matured quite a bit since, but haven’t had a chance to spend more than 5-10 minutes at a time with it. The two gripes that I have is not great UI scaling and many of the themes have too low of contrast.

I have been testing and following zed editor since it came and it has potential, but then again it has things I really don’t like.

All the chat channels, tracking and data collection, if not installed from repo there is no easy way to uninstall just need to find all files and folders and delete those to remove zed

If I could just get example JetBrains fleet installed from repo/rpm there is all I need no need toolbox no need app images

If cosmic text editor gets more grown and additional features like build in terminal, AI and language supports etc I will definitely use it even now I use it for testing an learning code without AI to teach my brain again to code without AI, but AI is so much easier and faster workflows

oh thank you for COPR repos all jetbrains are there as rpm time to get fleet on the test no toolbox no vscode no appimages

Same, i installed and removed it twice.

What i like least about it is how GPU heavy it seems to be. As soon as i start working with it my laptop fans spin up and the system temperature rises to ~65°C. For a code editor that just seems unnecessary.

I keep just ending up with Vim again, which just works™ and is really all i need.

yeah i have been thinking vim/nvim and i really like Fleet, but havent choose anything yet since i also like default cosmic editor alot it works just missing some features, but i guess those are coming someday atleast i hope

Nothing beats Kate

Kate is good yes, but I hope on Cosmic the cosmic text/editor gets on the next level…

Been testing and using 2 days now cosmic text/editor and I am enjoying my self on it already and can’t wait for all upcoming features and fun stuff
