Description

Nerd-fonts https://www.nerdfonts.com/ packaged as a "fall back" using fontconfig for popular coding fonts. There should be no more need to install "patched fonts" as duplicates as fontconfig allows to configure fallbacks if certain symbols are missing from a used font.

The following fonts have nerd-fonts defined as fallback:

Hi! thanks for this copr is really convenient to use it! I noticed that is not updated and the last release fix some naming issues, is there a git repo where I can contribute? or you have to manually trigger a new build?

Hello! Thank you for the feedback! I updated to the latest release. There is unfortunately currently no git repository to manage the packages, i do trigger the builds manually whenever i have enough time to do so.

Does exactly what it says on the box. Configures fontconfig to automatically fall back to the symbols only nerd font for missing glyphs in the listed fonts. So much simpler than juggling several patched fonts. Thanks for being thoughtful enough to share this with the community, Che. Hopefully your work finds it way in to the main repos!

For which packages would you like to see aarch64 support? I might consider adding those builds in the future. Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the slow response!

Unfortunately i do not have enough time to become an official package maintainer. If you want to move forward with that yourself, please do! Sharing is caring!

No worries about the slow response, you are a volunteer doing this and it’s not like I’m paying anything.

Well… ideally, the che/nerd-fonts package would be available in aarch64 (I’m running Fedora Asahi Linux on Apple Silicon).

If you have a repository that you use to trigger the builds, I’m happy to contribute to it to help you do this.

For Fedora 39 and Fedora 40 (I know it’s not out yet but it will be soon).

I have triggered builds for aarch64 (fedora 39) and also did x86_64 and aarch64 builds for Fedora 40 already. Thanks for the feedback and have fun! :slight_smile:

I’m seeing an issue in VS Code where Code doesn’t seem to fall back on the nerd font icons. I’m using Fira Mono and my terminal outside of VS Code looks great. But using “Fira Mono” in VS Code doesn’t have the Nerd glyphs. If I manually install the “FiraMono Nerd Font” from nerdfonts.com and use that, it works fine:

This fallback doesn’t happen in either the VS Code main editor, or in it’s integrated terminal. Fira Mono is set as my default system font in gnome-tweaks and multiple different terminals work correctly with them. VS Code is installed from Microsoft’s upstream repo. I’m not sure if this is a VS Code specific issue, libreoffice correctly shows the nerd glyphs.

Thank you for reporting that issue. I think that is an issue on the vscode side. Have you tried bringing up the issue with them?
