Can't create file with same name as directory

Fedora 30: Can’t create file with same name as parent folder. Can create folder of same name in another folder and move file of same name into it from there.

You can’t create the files where? In the file manager? In a specific program?

I’m not able to reproduce this behavior. Can you verify you are not in the same parent as the folder you just created when trying to create the file of the same name?

Hello,
I think you should provide more information about that problem.

Normally, you would not be able to create a directory and a file with the same name in the same working directory. The name of the parent directory should not affect any file creation in that directory.

You should probably check:

  • that you have entered the created directory and that it really is a parent directory.
  • that you have rights to create files in that directory.

Hi @mrhanky, @lruzicka! Welcome to the community! Please have a look at the introductory posts in the #start-here category if you haven’t had a chance to do so.

In addition to what @lruzicka said the exact text of error message you’re getting – if any – would be helpful too.
