Bizarre keyboard input issue on heroic launcher’s wine

Hi!

Noob here, I am having an issue similar to this post: Some keyboard buttons misbehaving but on fedora 40, with different keys, and only inside proton wine.

Basically, when I am running zenless zone zero inside heroic launcher’s version of proton wine, the keys a e i v b n (and no others) lead to various number keys, meaning I am unable to type those letters. Also, none of my alt keys work. This is not specific to keyboard layout, and the results are always the same numbers. This issue has never happened to me outside wine.

I am otherwise running gnome 46 and wayland. The version of wine is WINE-GE-Proton8-26. Changing to regular Proton does not fix the issue.

If this issue is more suited to a wine forum or the like, do tell, I’ll gladly move it

Alright, I managed to fix the issue.

First of all, I found it was a thing for all proton/wine games, and it’s a gnome thing. Putting my gaming keyboard layout on top and allowing programs to use different layouts in the keyboard settings fixed it.

What I suspect happened is that I have a gothic language keyboard set to top priority, and even though I am not using it, it interferes with the layout I do use enough to render keys not used in that layout (such as alt) unusable.
