How did you install VLC? is it from the pre-installed Fedora Flatpak remote?

On Linux there are mainly VLC, MPV and gstreamer for playing videos.

I had issues with gstreamer players (GNOME Totem, KDE DragonPlayer).

VLC is still on version 3, their version 4 beta is only available as Snap or as Ubuntu PPA afaik, which are both pretty useless.

I used VLC4 in a Ubuntu toolbox like that in the past, it was fine and VLC 4 will be great.

The VLC Flatpak on Flathub is unofficial, the devs said someone needs to build it (done) and ask them (no idea what status that is at).

VLC also has no Pipewire, Wayland or filesystem portal support, which makes it a pretty crappy app on modern Linux.

I switched to Celluliod from Flathub, which is one of multiple MPV frontends

  • Wayland
  • Pipewire
  • filesystem portal
  • fast, no issues really
  • MPV input.conf allows touch-to-pause/play an more like normal arrow up/down behavior etc.

Key combos are great too. The App is pretty barebones, but the KDE equivalent Haruna is very broken in 3 major areas (subtitles, queue and something else)

(Need to update that, was already in a better state but lost a huge commit)

i installed vlc media player flathub version thru the silverblue software manager. but celluloid is not as user friendly as vl
