"An Error Occurred Compiling the Shaders"

Off and on, I’m receiving an error dialog box stating “an error occurred compiling the shaders.” There’s no notification listed for reporting and I’m not sure how/where to troubleshoot.

Any advice?

Does it look like Steam? Or some other video game platform?

Might be worth trying to clear the shared cache and see if that helps?

rm -r .cache/mesa_shader_cache/

It doesn’t; there’s no title bar providing any context around which app may be throwing the error. Also interesting is that it occurs very irregularly.

Although I have Steam installed, it is not set to autostart nor is it running in the background when that error pops up.

Thanks for the tip; I’ll see if that cures the ailment.

I confirm, I have seen it too, especially after a system startup.

Well, it turns out that clearing the mesa cache doesn’t completely get rid of this error, as it still pops up from time to time; interestingly, less frequently after running rm -r ~/.cache/mesa_shader_cache/.
