Adding Software to Repos?

I have JUST installed Fedora Studio, haven’t really spent any time on it other than customizing the desktop and taking a look through the menus. It looks promising and more geared to the media I am interested in rather than AV Linux which I have tried the past year. I want to find one I like and stick to it! When I find one, I will contribute, both financially and as much help as I can offer.

To suggest software to be added to projects like Fedora Studio and have it tested for privacy concerns, where is the proper place to post that?

I’d like to see KIT Scenarist added.
I have seen some vids, read up on it and it looks promising, even downloaded it years ago but only put it on a unit that is never connected to the internet or my personal network, I didn’t know how to make sure it was safe.

I think it will also pull some more artistic types into the Linux world from windows for sure and possibly even Mac even to save them spending close to $1000 on writing software.

I wish I had the knowledge to look into the code to make sure it was safe to use but NO idea on how to do that… YET! do you have a team for that as well?
Thanks in advance

It can be installed from a third-party repo:

sudo dnf install kitscenarist --no-gpgchecks --repofrompath=kitscenarist,\
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/AndnoVember:/KITScenarist/Fedora_38

Adding it to the Fedora repos is a different story, see:
How to request for a package to be added to the Fedora repositories?

KIT Scenarist - free screenwriting software says that KITScenarist is being replaced with Story Architect https://starc.app/ so you may want to push for Story Architect to be added to Fedora instead.

Although I see that there are ‘non open’ aspects to Story Architect, so it is unlikely it can be added to Fedora. Download Story Architect I am usure about the policies or RPM Fusion in such cases.

There is a Flatpak of SA, so that is probably the easiest way to install it on Fedora.

They both look like interesting software, I had no idea such existed. Thanks!

For sure, they are cool programs and top tier for what they are, even compared to some paid versions.
I’m setting up a Mint version for a guy of 80+ years old… I added it to there and took a quick look… it’s even better than the version I downloaded of Kit Scenarist… def check it out!

My only concern is still how to check code to make sure it’s “safe” … not sure how to do that.

I’m going to keep my copy of Kit Scenarist and perhaps dl it again just in case I lose it… worth the time for sure! Cheers!

Shame there isn’t a way but understandable… it’s a busy world out there! Thanks

Don’t worry too much. Widely used software like these have many eyes on them and are generally safe. Basically I am saying go ahead and use it.

In security, you would not install ‘unneeded’ software in a bank or nuclear facility, but you should install it at home.

While there are no ‘official’ ways to get software added to Fedora, if you hang around, be constructive and friendly, and ask politely, someone may take interest and add the software for you. There are people with those skills on our Matrix chat. If you want to learm more about it there is no rush, come and hang out, say what you are interested in and you never know. If you want to co-maintain packages, that could take a load off other more experienced packagers.
