Yum and DNF. Compatibility. Unity3D

Hello, dear Fedora community! I want to know a little more about yum.

  1. Does Fedora Project still support yum?
  2. Is yum safe?
  3. If I use dnf and yum, will I get errors with packages compatibility?
  4. Does anyone here download Unity3D engine from official website ( Install the Unity Hub | Unity Hub | 3.0 ) via yum?

yum has been an alias for dnf for a very long time.

$ ls -l /usr/bin/yum /usr/bin/dnf
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 5 Mar 29 18:55 /usr/bin/dnf -> dnf-3*
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 5 Mar 29 18:55 /usr/bin/yum -> dnf-3*

I have not tried the unity install. But there is no issue using the yum command.

There was a lot of games developers very upset with unity because of licensing changes recently.
Many developers ported to the open source godot engine becuase of the that.
You might want to check on the licensing situation with unity and also checkout https://godotengine.org/ to see if it is a better choice.

Yeah, I have heard about new Unityโ€™s license, but Iโ€™m considering all options, in particular Godot :slight_smile: And I wanted to know yum closer. :slight_smile:

Not sure if you need more info. Yum is dnf they are the same program.
