I’m able to boot from the Fedora Workstation Live 42 ISO written to USB by Fedora Media Writer, but after choosing Run or Test & Run from the Grub menu, the screen goes blank except for the Surface’s virtual keyboard in the lower right corner and a static _
cursor in the top right.
I haven’t been able to find any documentation on additional diagnostic flags that I can edit in the Grub scripts to emit diagnostics to help determine where it is getting stuck.
I DID add echo
statement at the end of the grub script - and that content WILL be echoed within about 20 seconds, prior to the stuck cursor. This suggests to me that Grub thinks it finished, but that whatever async thing it kicked off quits silently.
I’m getting past Secure Boot, I think, right? I tried turning off Bitlocker (though it shouldn’t matter yet and indeed makes no difference). My Surface Laptop 3 firmware is up-to-date AFAICT. I don’t think the linux-surface kernel is necessary for SL3 nor relevant this early in the migration process.
I think that’s all the important stuff, but FYI I posted probably extraneous details on Stack .
I’ve seen similar reports of this for slightly earlier versions of Fedora but no real resolution other than that there doesn’t appear to be a lot of recent noise about it.
