Wired Xbox Controller

Hello all,

I’m using Kinoite.

Before on other distributions I used the xbox xone driver, so after that when I push the power button the driver recognizes the device.

How do I get the controller to run under fedora atomic edition? I don’t have any idea since I don’t have access to the system directory for writing, so make install after cloning the github repo won’t work.

Greetings & thanks in advance

The controller is recognized by the system defaults. But it doesn’t stop blinking when I press the xbox one power button. Instead I have to pull out the cable and put it back in, which is a bit annoying on every boot.

the kernel usually has drivers for most devices, specially when using it as a usb hid

the xone you mention, it is a driver replacement for the one in the kernel, i dont see the need of it, do you have a reason to want to use a different driver?

I needed xone in order to boot my xbox one controller, so it stops blinking and gets recognized.
Another option would be plugging in- and out the usb cable on every boot (works on fedora atomic) , which also has the effect to be recognized, but I’m a bit picky and want to start it by pressing the power button (on the controller)

then you need to follow the instructions given by them, it seems it disables the kernel driver and forces a new driver on top

in the part of the bottom there is a list of commands to follow

your question about not having write access, that is how linux should be, to avoid damaging the file structure, you have to do things as super user, sudo

the commands mentioned there must be run as superuser, sudo, because it aims to replace modules and do alot of changes

I think you may need to package the driver with rpmbuild and then overlay(?) that rpm.
It’s probably easiest by creating a copr project, building the rpm archive and adding the copr project to your system…

Or look if there is a copr project already available for the xone driver.

so the kernel xpad driver still has issues with the xbox one pad?

$ modinfo -n xpad
/lib/modules/7.2.8-300.fc45.x86_64/kernel/drivers/input/joystick/xpad.ko.xz

$ rpm -qf /lib/modules/7.2.8-300.fc45.x86_64/kernel/drivers/input/joystick/xpad.ko.xz
kernel-modules-extra-7.2.8-300.fc45.x86_64

Yes, it’s shown as you have posted.
The only way to “start/boot” the xbox one pad is to plugout and plugin the cable, this way it works as intended with the power led turned on. Otherwise when I hit the xbox pad button it wouldn’t stop blinking.

There is no other way for me to start the pad and I want to change that.

have you tried to unload the driver an probe a second time?

I’m just another noob on fedora, installed since 1-2 hours. How do I do that?

I think I found it: sudo modprobe -r xpad

Yeah, that’s another way to stop it from blinking, but I would have to do that after every restart.

more important is does it work after running sudo modprobe xpad again?
check with lsmod |grep xpad

chris@matrix:~$ lsmod | grep xpad
xpad                   61440  0
ff_memless             24576  1 xpad

is shown, when I do that.

there is your workaround. Consider filing a bugreport https://bugzilla.redhat.com/ under Product Fedora, Component Kernel

AFAIK there is no other way to add other drivers on an atomic distro but writing a spec file and building the rpm archive.
