when i press on the wifi button in the taskbar , system crash
Hello,
this screenshot does not look like my Gnome session. Could you please provide more details on which flavour of Fedora you are running?
Also, unless someone suffers from the very same problem, we will not able to help you, if you do not provide more details.
For the start, you could try to paste some journalctl logs. How to do it?
- Boot the computer.
- Reproduce the crash on your machine.
- Restart the computer.
- List the logs from that specific time, i.e. set the frame to include the time of the crash:
journalctl --since "YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS" --until "YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS"
- Paste the results somewhere and link it here.

This seems fine with me. I cannot see any crashes in these logs. Have you set the frame correctly? What I mean is that if you crashed the system at 11:25, for instance, you would like to include anything between 11:24 and after the reboot, so that the crash is visible in the logs.
I am having the same problem. I also have an intel wifi chip. The system crashes after I disable wifi with the button in the menu. I also see these same log messages, directly after clicking the button to disable wifi. Itâs also worth mentioning that for the brief time after I click the wifi button, I am able to use the system to open a terminal and I am unable to interact with NetworkManager in any way using systemctl. It hangs after I try to run âsudo systemctl status NetworkManagerâ. stop, start, restart all do the same.
Here are messages from journalctl on my system during the event:

Hey guys, same problem here on Manjaro/Arch (Stuck when disabling Wi-Fi - #8 by rollback - Network - Manjaro Linux Forum).
Same hardware. Tested on kernel 6.5 and 6.6âŚ
I tried on Debian 12 with the 6.1 stable kernel (nor backports) and Iâve the problem. Soooo weird.
Maybe I will find something in bios.
EDIT : OK, I tried a factory reset of the BIOS, the problem is still hereâŚ
Itâs tiring me out, Iâm going to try to change the Wi-Fi card, hoping to recover something other than Intel.
whatâs everybodys wifi chipset here?
From lspci | grep -i wireless
00:14.3 Network controller: Intel Corporation Cannon Point-LP CNVi [Wireless-AC] (rev 30)
I canât see what chipset powers this device, lspci -nn
may tell.

Intel Cannon Point-LP CNVi [Wireless-AC] seems to suggest that the device is supported by the kernel, but there are quite a few reports that the device is actually not working properlyâŚ
I have the same issue with âIntel 8265 / 8275â network card and 6.6.* kernels on Fedora 38 and 39. This was not happening with 6.5.* kernel on Fedora 38.
After trying various vanilla kernels from COPR I found that ânextâ kernel version does not have this problem.
Everyone who has this problem, please try to reproduce that with âkernel-nextâ installed using this instruction: Kernel Vanilla Repositories - Fedora Project Wiki
If the issue does not happen there, then probably you just need to wait until the fix will come to Fedora kernel release. (Donât forget to remove ânextâ kernel â itâs not for production use.)
I have the same Intel card, and updating to kernel 6.6.11-200 today seems to have resolved the issue for now. Pressing the WiFi button on the quick settings panel in GNOME no longer freezes my laptop
Will update if the problem recurs.
Thank you for your comment. I confirm your information. Updating to 6.6.11-200 fixed the issue for me.
