I have a PC installed fedora server 40 without screen. I always remote connect it, and it worked good nowadays. These days I want to develop some GUI app on it , so I want to achive remote connect it with GUI support.
I searched some ways like vnc and rdp , also I tested X11 forwarding(but failed). So I hope experienced partners can provide some advice.
RDP seems to be the way things develop. On KDE, KRDP is way more secure than KRFB (VNC).
On GNOME, the new remote desktop features integrated into the OS also use RDP.
To my knowledge, the only big issue is that RDP is mainly developed my Microsoft, who doesnt care about nonfree media codecs as their scale means they already pay the maximum amount for h264 and h265 licenses, so why not continue.
On Fedora this means without openh264 (from Cisco, same, their scale means they dont need to may more for additional distribution) or rpmfusion, RDP will not work.
There are also things developing regarding Wayland remote windows
At least on GNOME, the remote desktop just works.
thanks for your patient reply. I just installed fedora server without no GUI. I prefer to install lightwight GUI like xfce.Besides if gnome is more suite for my needs. I will install gnome in future.
wow F? Virtual Window Manager looks pretty cool.and I thought X11 more classical than wayland. could you please share some screenshots of your fvwm work.
